Batik

Origin & History:
Batik art came to India through trade with Indonesia but developed its unique Indian identity, particularly in Gujarat and West Bengal. The technique involves wax-resist dyeing to create intricate patterns.

Using wax to block off areas, artists dye the fabric multiple times to achieve vibrant, layered designs. Common motifs include floral patterns, animals, and geometric shapes.

Sanjhi

Origin & History:
Sanjhi is an intricate paper-cutting art from Uttar Pradesh, dating back to the Mughal era. It is traditionally used to create stencils for rangoli designs in temples.

Specifications:
Designs often depict scenes from the life of Krishna. The delicate paper patterns are created using special scissors and knives.

Sanjhi art was originally practiced by Brahmin priests and used in rituals to decorate temple floors.
